In May 2010, Bernelle is celebrating a milestone: its 20th anniversary.

Over its twenty years of operation, Bernelle has overseen the planning and construction of 650 million dollars of construction in the Calgary region and has performed in all sectors of the market, from residential and commercial to institutions of higher learning and medicine.

Bernelle has grown with the city it serves, over the past two decades taking on bigger and more complex projects. But the solid business philosophy that it began with remains its foundation today.

Bernelle’s President, Chris Goulard, founded the firm in May 1990 and began work on the company’s first project — the Edgemont Elementary School & Community Centre.  Other projects that year included the Taber Provincial Building, a 120-Man Barracks at CFB Suffield and the Airdrie Elementary School.

Recalling a Calgary business environment where the median after-tax family income was just over $52,000, unemployment had begun its drive past 6% to level out over 10% and mortgages were based on a 9.5% prime bank rate.

Two decades ago, after Chris Goulard had completed over $200 million of construction as Vice-President of a major development firm, he founded Bernelle on the principle of providing quality Project Management services.

The name of the firm, Bernelle, was derived from the names of Chris’ daughters – Amber and Janelle – who inspired the founding of the business.

Bernelle continues to provide ethical business practices in the execution of every project undertaken by the firm. Execution of all contracts, based on ethical construction practices, resulted in very successful Projects and repeat business with major clients as diverse as the University of Calgary, Duke Projects Inc. and EllisDon Construction Services.
